Clothes in Egypt
This is what the Egyptians wore back then. |
I know something you don't know! I know that Egyptians used linen to make their clothes. What is linen, you ask? Well, linen is yarn or cloth used to make Ancient Egyptian clothes. They got the linen from the fiber of an Egyptian plant, the flax plant. Now what kind of name is flax plant and what does it mean? Well, I'm glad you asked that question. I 'm not trying to be mean but who would want to wear the old clothes the Egyptians wore. I wouldn't wear those clothes even if you paid me to. Just to let you know if you went for a picnic or if you were washing dishes, the napkins, tablecloth, dishtowels and maybe even the handkerchief would be made out of linen. Now who would want to blow their noses in linen? NOT ME!

Cool-looking Homes
I know what you are thinking, Egyptian houses are very small. Well, whoever told you this is wrong. Not all Egyptian homes were small, some were bigger than the average home. The really big houses had lots of things in them. You might think this is kind of weird but everything I am going to name is inside the house. Gardens, porches, main quarters or a living room, a shed for extra things they really didn't need, and bathrooms. I think you will find this a little bit weird but the animal shelters were inside the house and right by the kitchen. Now how unsanitary is that? The servants' quarters were where the servants hung out. Now what is your thinking of the Egyptian houses?
This is what an Ancient Egyptian house from the inside and out. |
Everyday Life As An Egyptian
Ancient Egyptian food |
Sometimes it seems like our lives are very easy. In Egypt, life was very difficult, kind of like school. I found out that the types of jobs you had depended on the type of places you lived. For example, if I were a candy maker I would live in Candy Land. Egyptian people had different task or chores due to gender. Men hunted for food, sometimes they hunted big and sometimes they hunted small game. The women were like stay at home wives. They gathered fruits and vegetables, so when the men came home from hunting all they had to do was cook the meat. I believe that hunting was gamble, because if the men came home without any food then the village they lived in would not eat that meal. So basically no food equals hugriness.
Freetime
Checkers are very popular in Eygpt. |
Freetime for Egyptians are very different from freetime in the USA. We have the awesome techonlogy that smart nerds make for us. Back then, Eygptians had lots, and lots, and lots of games. One game that is very common in a home is checkers. I love checkers! Lots of the things that we have the Egyptians made for us. Did you know that baby rattles were made by the Egyptians. Egyptians had games named after animals, like jackals, hounds, and senets. Some of the games they had seem kind of boring to me. I mean who wants to play a game called, "Fit For A King?" Some of the games look kind of fun. If you want, maybe you could play a game or two with me.
